Who are we

Baymina Enerji A.S. is a electrical power producing company located in Ankara. It is established in 1998 for the construction and operation of the 770 MW Ankara Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant under the BOO model. The shareholders of Baymina are GDF SUEZ Group (95%) and Mimag  (5%).

Baymina Enerji A.Ş. is a member of GDF SUEZ Energy International (GSEI) (www.gdfsuezenergyint.com), which is responsible for energy activities of GDF SUEZ Group (www.gdfsuez.com) outside Europe.

Mimag (www.mimag.com.tr), partner of GSEI in this Project, is a Turkish engineering and EPC company, which has expertise in power generation projects.

BAYMİNA IN NUMBERS

1. Construction

Construction of the Plant started in September 2001 and ended in December 2003. The plant went commercial operation on 5th of February 2004.

2. Production

Baymina produces enough electricity to satisfy 100% of the demand for domestic use in Ankara (6.3 billion kWh per year). This corresponds to nearly 3% of the total electricity demand of Turkey. Baymina's only client is TETAŞ who buys the electricity produced through a 16 years purchase agreement.

3. Fuel Consumption

Baymina is amongst the largest consumers of natural gas in Turkey. Baymina’s main supplier is BOTAS, which provides natural gas with a 16 years Gas Purchase Agreement. The Annual Consumption is 1 billion cubic meters, more than the annual consumption for heating of Ankara city.y.

4. Cost of Realisation

  • The project, worth more than 500 M$, was financed for 75% by a consortium of international banks, and supported by the World Bank (MIGA) and export credit agencies of Belgium, USA, Germany and Austria.
  • 60 M$ were used for local purchase.
  • In 2003, Project Finance International elected the financing of the project as Power Deal of the Year

5. Occupation

Baymina employs 49 people of which 21 (6 women) are university graduates,26 are graduated from technical schools and 2 are high school graduates.

6. Local Economy

Baymina buys all its necessary goods and services from local suppliers, except its gas and big components. Baymina purchases local goods and services for an estimated value of 2.5 M$ per annum.
